GENERAL DO'S & DONT'S FOR A HEALTHY LIFE


Dietary Measures


1.Avoid fried, spicy, bakery, synthetic or processed foods.

2.Avoid heavy foodstuff, i.e. take light, easily digestible food.

3.Avoid refined flour (maida) - prefer wheat flour with husk.

4.Avoid eating stale and leftover food, as it is the biggest source of oxidants.

5.Reduce excess of cold, heavy, oily, sweet, sour and salty food.

6.No ice creams, cold or iced drinks, packed fruit juices, junk food or preserved foods.

7.Do not eat fruits just after meals.

8.Do not drink water just before or after meals; take a little amount of water with food if required. Take it an hour or hour and a half after having meals. Drink lots of warm water to purify the entire body.

9.Avoid overeating as well as under eating.

10.Do not skip meals because it can aggravate the liver and bile secretions. And do not eat if you don't feel hungry and if it is during meal times - you can have fruits or water.

11.Avoid tea or coffee as much as possible especially after meals.

12.In between meals (breakfast/lunch/dinner) do not take anything except water, fresh fruit juices, fruits, lemon water/shikanji.

13.Do not eat food too quickly; chew it properly.

14.Avoid swimming, running, stair climbing and sex (or any other physical activity) just after having meals.

15.Do not divide your attention by reading, watching T.V, working while eating food.

16.At meals, eat until you are about � full.

17.Have your last meal at least two hours before going to bed.

18.Regular daily elimination is must.


Lifestyle Measures


1.Early to bed and early to rise goes a long way in keeping one fit. Go to bed by 10 p.m. Avoid intense entertainment before going to bed.

2.Exercise on a daily basis is necessary. Don't overdo it - exercise to only 50% of your capacity.

3.A brisk walk is beneficial for everyone.

4.Practice some techniques of reducing stress like reiki, pranayam, sudarshan kriya, meditations, etc.

5.Walk a mile after dinner.

6.Be careful of the hygiene of your body

.

7.Have a positive attitude.

8.Calming music may reduce restlessness, boosts brain chemicals and improves behaviour.

9.Always stay active, physically and mentally.

10.Avoid extremes of temperatures.

11.A warm oil scalp massage, once or twice a week, stimulates the scalp and helps balance the mind.

12.A full body massage is good for everyone.

13.If your job is sedentary, take short breaks and regular walks.

14.Avoid swimming, running, stair climbing and sex (or any other physical activity) just after having meals.

15.Do not divide your attention by reading, watching T.V., working while eating food.

16.At meals, eat until you are about full.

17.Have your last meal at least two hours before going to bed.

18.Regular daily elimination is must.

Recommended Daily Routine (in the following sequence):


1.Walk for 20-30 minutes after dinner. Drink at least 300 ml of warm water an hour after dinner. Do not take anything after this (this helps in cleansing the digestive tract). This habit will make your mornings more fresh and energetic.

2.Wake up early in the morning in Brahma Muhurrtta (between 4 a.m. to 6 a.m.). After gargling drink 300 ml of warm water before going to the toilet.

3.After brushing, massage any "Dant Manjan" (herbal gum powder) mixed with mustard oil. Massage it gently over the teeth and gums and after 3-5 minutes of application, spit and wash it thoroughly. This is a must if you want your teeth and gums to stay healthy for the rest of your life. You can repeat this process after dinner also.

4.A full body massage (of mustard/olive/sesame oil) at least thrice a week is beneficial.

5.Do some stretching asanas like - Tadasana, Tiryaka Tadasana and Kati Chakrasana). Go for a brisk walk for at least 30 minutes. Do Shavasana for 5-10 minutes and after that do some Pranayam like Nadi-Shodhana, Kapalbhati, Anulom-Vilom, etc. in any comfortable asana like Sukhasana or Padmasana.

6.Have a bath with lukewarm water..

7.Breakfast options - Sprouts, fruits, Dalia (sweet/salty), upma, poha, dhokla, idli-sambhar, porridge (halwa). Take herbal tea or green tea or Kashmiri tea (kahwa) along with it.

8.Lunch and dinner - have light and easily digestible food. Avoid spicy, fried and sour food. Do not sleep immediately after having food.

9.In between meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) do not take anything except water, fresh fruit juices, fruits, lemon water / shikanji.
